Together with Valbandon, Fazana forms a municipality with approximately 4000 residents. The main industry of the area is farming, fishing and traditional activities, however in recent years tourism has become the main source of industry and Fazana has seen some dramatic changes and improvements. The name Fazana comes from the ancient name Phasiana ( pheasant) and also to the skill of producing amphorae ( which were used for the transporting wine and olive oil during the Roman Empire)
